Donnington
Park Race Circuit
Donnington
Park circuit is located in Castle Donington in North West Leicestershire
and was opened in 1931.
The
circuit uses paths and tracks at the front of Donnington Hall inthe
parkland. To begin with the circuit was only used for motorbikes
but by 1933 the track had been extended and re-surfaced and was
now able to have cars on it.
During
the Second World War the land was used as a military vechicle depot
and the circuit was closed.
The
track was finally re-built and opened in 1977 but without the Melbourne
hairpin (the section you can see on the Grand OPrix circuit below).
The loop was finally added in 1985 giving Donbnigton Park two circuits.
In
2004 the track had £5 million invested into it with re-surfacing
of the track and also the pits and paddock being re-developed and
was opened in March 2006.
Donnington
is the home of the British MotoGP (British Motorcycle Grand Prix).
